Tallowa Dam is situated on the Shoalhaven River near Kangaroo Valley, about 200 kilometres south of Sydney. Bendeela Camping and Picnic Area is located nearby.
The facilities at the dam include:
- Picnic tables
- Electric barbecues
- Toilets/disabled toilets
- Untreated water
- Viewing area
- Limited public parking
Fishing, swimming and non-powered boating are permitted at Tallowa Dam and Bendeela Camping and Picnic Area.
Items of interest include the largest fish lift of its kind in Australia, which transports fish over the dam wall in a 2,500 litre bucket. The fish lift is helping to protect 10 native fish species by allowing them to migrate between the lower and upper Shoalhaven River.

- Please note: Access to some SCA areas may be restricted from time-to-time due to construction or operational activity, or for environmental reasons
To help the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) manage its picnic and camping facilities please notify us in advance when the size of groups visiting any of our sites would exceed 50 visitors. This can be done using the large group notification form.

From Sydney, follow the Hume Highway [F5] south towards Goulburn and take the Mittagong to Bowral turnoff. Take Nowra Road towards Kangaroo Valley. Continue across Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley, and turn right onto Mt Scanzi Road. Follow the road straight down to the dam.
