Education

The SCA works to increase awareness and understanding of our water supply catchments and dams through information sharing and education. Our aim is to inspire individuals and communities to take positive actions that contribute to catchment health and water quality.

We are committed to working with:

  • the community
  • farmers and landowners
  • industry and businesses
  • students and educators
  • local councils, government agencies and other organisations

to achieve our vision of healthy catchments, quality water - always.

Online resources - Water Quality: HSC Chemistry and HSC Biology

The new Water Quality:HSC Chemistry and Water Quality: HSC Biology interactive web-based teaching and learning resources are now available online. These resources bring the authentic science used to manage Sydney's water supply to teachers and students.

Use these resources to find out about:

  • Water quality monitoring
  • Water quality treatment
  • Sydney's drinking water catchments
  • Water scientists at work
  • Water quality chemistry first-hand investigations: turbidity, dissolved oxygen, phosphates, electrical conductivity and pH
  • Water contaminates and pathogens
  • Water quality and public health

The resources feature photographs and video of scientists working in the field, a virtual dissolved oxygen experiment, and quizzes and research projects to test your understanding. They are specifically tailored for 9.4.5 of the NSW Chemistry syllabus and Stage 6 Biology Module - The search for better health.

If you have difficulty accessing the web-based resource, a CD version is available for Chemistry teachers. Please contact the SCA Education team on 02 4720 0344.
