State Government contributes $17 million to improve sewerage services in Robertson - Minister Phil Costa MP - 30 June 2010

The Keneally Government has committed $17 million to providing sewerage services to 1,200 Robertson residents.

NSW Minister for Water Phil Costa said the investment will also safeguard Southern Highlands waterways and protect Sydney’s drinking water supplies.

The investment is part of the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program and Sydney Catchment Authority’s Accelerated Sewerage Program.

“This is a $17 million State Government investment that will help deliver improved sewerage services to 1,200 Robertson residents, allowing them to upgrade from onsite septic or pumpout systems,” Minister Costa said.

“This is an important investment, which will reduce the risk of run-off from onsite sewerage systems to the environment and local waterways – some of which drain into Sydney's drinking water catchments.

“This scheme will play a vital role in protecting public health, the environment and Sydney’s drinking water catchments by enabling local households to connect to more reliable, modern sewerage system.

“By connecting to the sewerage system, many residents will also be able to save money on ongoing maintenance and pump-out costs associated with onsite systems.”

Minister Costa said the NSW Government’s investment means Wingecarribee Shire Council can now call tenders for construction.

“The NSW Government’s investment will support council during construction of the $26.55 million Robertson Sewerage Scheme,” Minister Costa said.

“Construction is expected to begin later this year, and it is expected that the first homes will be able to connect to the sewer from mid-2012.”

Minister Costa said the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program had already helped protect public health, the environment and drinking water catchments towns across NSW.

“To date, the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program has supported more than 380 projects across NSW, providing improved sewerage services to over one million people living in country NSW,” Minister Costa said.
