Take the family to Warragamba these school holidays - Minister Phillip Costa MP - 5 January 2011
NSW Minister for Water Phil Costa is encouraging families looking for activities to fill the remaining weeks of the summer holidays to head to Warragamba and spend a day at Sydney’s most iconic dam.
"The summer holidays are a great excuse to get the family out of the house to enjoy time together, and we have fantastic new facilities at Warragamba Dam for families to take advantage of,” Minister Costa said.
“Families have been flocking to Warragamba Dam since it was built 50 years ago and it is fast regaining its position as one of Western Sydney’s most popular tourist attractions – which is no surprise given the area’s breathtaking natural beauty and tranquil surrounds.
“What better way to spend a lazy summer day than having a family picnic away from the crowds, soaking up one of the best views in Sydney.
“If you haven’t yet been out to experience Warragamba Dam I encourage you to pack a picnic lunch and take the family out for the day – you’re in for a real treat.
“As well as new, sheltered picnic areas, we have also installed new viewing platforms that offer visitors panoramic vistas of the iconic dam and surrounds.
“In addition, we have a brand new visitor exhibition that has attracted tens of thousands of visitors since it was opened in September.
“The exhibition adds a new dimension to the dam experience, and features displays about dams and catchments, audio visual material, historic items and a cutting edge ‘drops of wisdom’ interactive table, which is the largest of its type in Australia.
“If Warragamba Dam doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are also picnic facilities at:
- Avon Dam
- Cataract Dam
- Cordeaux Dam
- Fitzroy Falls Reservoir
- Nepean Dam
- Prospect Reservoir
- Tallowa Dam
- Woronora Dam
- Bendeela Recreation Area.”
