The Sydney Catchment Authority's (SCA) primary responsibilities are to manage and protect the drinking water catchments and reservoirs to reliably supply Sydney, Illawarra, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and the Shoalhaven with high quality, reliable raw water.

To do this we have water supply agreements with customers such as Sydney Water Corporation. We must also operate according to the requirements of the Sydney Water Catchment Management Act 1998. Ensuring reliability of supply, including during extreme events such as floods, drought and fire, is a major part of our contingency planning.

Several of our water supply and infrastructure programs are achieved in partnership with others. Details of these achievements are provided under Goal 3 – Strategic partnerships.

Highlights

  • Met or exceeded water quality compliance targets and provided an uninterrupted supply to customers for the ninth successive year
  • Commissioned Prospect Raw Water Pumping Station, adding significant flexibility and security to the water supply system
  • Managed incidents with no loss of supply or impact on the quality of water delivered
  • Continued the upgrade of Warragamba Dam’s entire electrical network at a cost of $23 million
  • Successfully deployed the SCA Reservoir Management System during water quality incidents.
