SCA Annual Water Quality Monitoring Report 2008-09
The new fish lift and environmental flows infrastructure at Tallowa Dam will help protect 10 native fish species, including the endangered Australian Grayling, by improving the health of the river and allowing fish to migrate between the lower and upper Shoalhaven River.
This report describes the results of water quality monitoring undertaken by the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) during 2008–09, in accordance with clause 3.6 of the operating licence. As well as meeting the SCA’s statutory obligations, the report aims to provide stakeholders, students, researchers and other members of the community with information on water quality.
More specifically, this report aims to:
- detail how the system has performed relative to water quality criteria at each location
- map water quality in catchments, reservoirs and delivery systems
- interpret the results of the collected water quality data
- report on research activities
- report on measures planned or taken to manage water quality incidents.
The 2008–09 report is presented in 10 sections:
- Introduction - explains why the SCA needs to monitor and report on water quality
- Overview of the water supply network - describes the drinking water catchments and supply networks
- The Water Quality Monitoring Program - describes the water quality monitoring undertaken by the SCA
- Raw water quality of water filtration plant inflow - details how the raw water supplied for treatment has performed relative to the standards required under bulk water supply agreements and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines
- Water quality monitoring in the catchment - describes water quality in the SCA’s catchments
- Water quality in reservoirs - describes water quality in the SCA’s water storages
- Monitoring for operations, planning and research - describes the results of monitoring carried out by the SCA for operational and planning purposes
- Monitoring of streamflows, releases and water temperature - describes the SCA’s monitoring of streamflows and water released downstream of storages
- Long term trend analysis - provides the findings of a long term trend analysis
- Incidents and exceptions - describes incidents and exceptions and SCA response.
Plots of monitoring data, data summary tables, and details of incidents and exceedances are provided in the appendices. The main report and appendices are available to download in pdf format from the links below:
