Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979
Significant development proposals in the catchments are assessed under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The SCA assesses these proposals using the neutral or beneficial effect on water quality test, and provides advice to proponents and the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure. The proposals include mining in the catchments where we assess the medium and long-term impacts of mining-related subsidence on water resources and ecosystems, risks to groundwater and aquifers from subsidence, and whether remediation of the impacts of mining is effective.
