Rural Living Handbook

The Rural Living Handbook gives landholders and residents practical advice about their responsibilities when living in rural or semirural settings in Sydneys drinking water catchments.  The handbook focuses on responsible land management to achieve better more viable properties and to help protect our drinking water.

The handbook provides information and resources about:

  • buying, developing and managing property
  • water, soil, fire, weeds and pests
  • native plants and animals
  • waste management, including effluent and chemicals
  • farm safety
  • working with your local council.

The handbook was first published in 2007 as a joint initiative between the Goulburn Mulwaree Council and the Sydney Catchment Authority. Since publication it has won awards for excellence in council communication and planning. Local versions are now also available for the Upper Lachlan and Wollondilly local government areas.
