Core water quality research


The three largest core water quality research projects recently initiated by the SCA were:

Pollution source tracing and tracking tools

This is a joint program with CSIRO, Australian National University, University of New South Wales and EcoWise Environmental.

This project will summarise the most cost-effective means of determining the origins of pollution found in waterways within the catchments.

Contaminant export rate and budgeting

This is a joint program with the CSIRO, Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Catchment Hydrology, University of Western Sydney and Australian Water Technologies.

This project aims to provide the most accurate, currently available information on export rates for contamination arising from diffuse pollution sources found on SCA land.

Catchment and reservoir conceptual modelling

This is a joint program with Patterson Britton and Partners, Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Catchment Hydrology, and Monash and Melbourne universities.

It involves the development of a conceptual model which will draw together literature describing the relationship between activities on land and in storages, and the resultant water quality impacts.
