Statutory and regulatory operations


The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) undertakes statutory and regulatory operations including compliance and land use planning.

The SCA is responsible under the Sydney Water Catchment Management Act 1998 to protect catchment areas, promote water quality, and protect the environment. We regulate certain activities in the Special and Controlled Areas to maintain water quality and protect catchment areas through the Sydney Water Catchment Regulation 2008. In addition to this regulation, the SCA has a key role to oversee development in the catchments by implementing planning and development regulation under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Sydney Drinking Water Catchment) 2011 (which replaces the Drinking Water Catchment Regional Environmental Plan No 1).
