Regional Plan
'Sustaining the Catchments - the Regional Plan for the drinking water catchments of Sydney and adjacent regional centres' (the regional plan) has been developed to ensure the environmental, social and economic future of these catchments. The regional plan is about protecting drinking water and improving the health of the catchments for everyone's benefit. It was developed following recommendations by the Sydney Water Inquiry into the water quality incident in 1998 and extensive community consultation.
The regional plan will encourage improved land use practices through various measures including incentives, shared information, education, and regulation. It also provides a framework for sustainable development and improving knowledge as a basis for land management decisions.
The regional plan includes:
- statutory instruments
- overview and action plan
- supporting guidelines and tools
- detailed maps of the drinking water catchments
- current recommended practices.
The following publications provide background information about the Regional Plan:
The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) is working in partnership with councils in the catchment area and providing training to help councils deliver their responsibilities under the regional plan.
More information and support are available for catchment councils.
