Bioscapes

Five easy steps to Phosphorus

  • Better manage your nutrient needs to your enterprise needs
  • Learn to maange fertiliser for optimum production and environmental sustainability

Landscan™ – Land management skills

  • Skills to assess farm landscapes and land capability
  • Learn how to conduct representative soil sampling
  • Understand soil testing and soil test results
  • Make informed decisions about nutrient inputs
  • Learn how to prevent and manage soil erosion

How long? Six workshops over 4-6 months, with 5 half day sessions and 1 full day session
Where? Courses are held on individual properties, usually on the participants’ properties - Presenters can demonstrate course material and lessons on farm
How much does the course cost? $100 per property (normally $420) - This includes two free soil tests valued at $200

This course is starting:

  • Braidwood, Friday 16 March

Landscan Farmplan™ - Develop a paddock by paddock farm plan

  • Develop paddock management plans
  • Identify paddock strengths, weaknesses and risks
  • Determine critical benchmarks and triggers for action
  • Develop a farm plan

How long? A 2 day workshop for landholders who have completed a full Landscan™ course
Where? The field day is held both indoors and in the paddock
How much does the course cost? $50 per property (normally $200)

This course is starting:

  • Southern Highlands, Fridays 9 and 23 March

Managing your Farm Dam

  • Identify risks to your farm dam and its catchment
  • Learn how to manage your on-farm water and the implications for downstream areas
  • Learn how to improve the biodiversity of your farm dam
  • Develop actions to improve the water quality and longevity of your farm dam.

How long? About 5 hours
Where? The field day is held both indoors and in the paddock
How much does the course cost? Free

This course is starting:

  • Kangaroo Valley, Thursday 29 March
  • Southern Highlands, Thursday 19 April
  • Goulburn, Friday 20 April

Paddock Plants™

  • Learn to identify important plants in your paddocks
  • Identify which plants are useful and which are weeds
  • Understand what plants tell you about your paddock or landscape

How much does the course cost? Free to landholders in the Sydney drinking water catchment

This course is starting:

  • Braidwood, Thursday 26 April

Prograze™ - Grazing management skills

  • Skills to manage productive and sustainable pastures
  • Learn to assess pasture quality and quantity
  • Develop grazing strategies for sustainable animal and pasture production

How long? 8 field days over 8-12 months.
Where? Courses are held on participants' farms with a strong in-paddock approach - Learning focuses on what you can see and touch in the paddock
How much does the course cost? $200 per property (normally $650) - This includes two free pasture quality tests valued at $120

  • Goulburn, Friday 4 May

Prograze Plus™

  • Develep strategic grazing management plans
  • Use fodder budgeting to assess grazing plans
  • Integrate pasture and livestock grazing targets

How long? Four workshop sessions over a three month period
Where? Workshops are held on participant's farms with a strong in paddock approach
How much does the course cost? $200 per property (normally $520) - This includes PRO PLUS™ Fodder Budgeting software

This course is starting:

  • Southern Highlands, Friday 27 April
  • Goulburn, Monday 30 April

Prograze for horses™

  • Learn how to assess pasture quantity and quality
  • Manage your pastures to meet the feeding demands of horses

How long? A 2 day on-farm workshop
Where? Courses are held on participants’ properties
How much does the course cost? Free

Pasture rejuvenation field day

  • How to assess pasture health and composition
  • How to improve pasture health and composition
  • Pasture types, mixes and sowing
  • Economics of sowing pastures

How long? About 4 hours
Where? The field day is held both indoors and in the paddock
How much does the course cost? Free (normally $75)

Seasonal farm walks

  • Learn to identify the plants and weeds in your paddock
  • Discuss seasonal issues and relevant farm activities with staff from the Department of Primary Industries and the Livestock Health and Pest Authority

How long? About 3-4 hours, depending on the number of participants
